Fort Washington, PA
Hope Lodge, located near Mather Mill and Fort Washington State Park, is one of the finer examples of Georgian
symmetry in architecture. Built between 1743 and 1748 by Quaker entrepreneur Samuel Morris, the mansion is furnished
in both the Colonial and Colonial Revival (popular in the 1920s) styles. The site's large grounds host a variety of
activities, including sheep shearing and colonial cooking demonstrations, a colonial summer day camp, and the annual Hope
Lodge encampment. The annual encampment takes place during the first weekend of November and includes reenactments of
battles between the Redcoats and the Colonists.
